Tyree Transformers to Build $47M Facility in Australia
Tyree Transformers will invest $47 million in a new power transformer manufacturing and testing facility at its Braemar operations in the Southern Highlands, Australia, supported by the NSW Government through the Net Zero Manufacturing Initiative. The government contribution totals $22 million.
The planned 5,000m² facility will enable the production and testing of extra high voltage transformers up to 345 kV. These units are expected to play a key role in connecting renewable energy generation and storage projects to Australia’s electricity grid.
The expansion comes as Tyree Transformers marks 80 years of Australian manufacturing. The company said the investment will strengthen domestic transformer production capability and support infrastructure development for renewable energy, heavy industry, and data centre demand across Australia.
The project is also expected to generate regional economic benefits, including approximately 100 construction jobs during the build phase and around 60 ongoing full-time roles once operational. It will also support new apprenticeships, graduate pathways, and training opportunities aimed at developing skilled workers in advanced manufacturing in regional Australia.
The initiative is positioned as part of broader efforts in regional New South Wales, Australia, to support the country’s net zero transition through expanded industrial capability and workforce development..
