Weidmann Electrical’s Business Head reflects on his first year, his vision for the business, the launch of customer training, and the opportunities shaping the future of energy.
Alan Ross: Tell us about your first year as Head of Weidmann Electrical Technology.
Patrik Gareus: My first year has been both rewarding and intensive. The energy sector is experiencing unprecedented growth, creating exciting opportunities for our customers and our business, while also bringing operational challenges that required immediate attention. Throughout our sites, I was most impressed with the commitment of our people. I met highly competent and motivated teams with a strong willingness to solve problems and support our customers.
One of my priorities has been listening to our colleagues and our customers. That has reinforced my belief that long-term success is built on trust, open dialogue, and accountability. We have exceptional people throughout Weidmann, and by strengthening our culture to become more process-oriented, we are reinforcing our ability to deliver consistently and support our customers’ future growth.
Alan: What is your vision for Weidmann Electrical Technology?
Patrik: The vision is to be the most trusted long-term partner for transformer manufacturers worldwide.
Our Fit for the Future strategy is about more than growth. It is about continuously improving how we work together; strengthening our capabilities, investing in our people, and excelling at the fundamentals. That means reliable delivery, clear communication of our processes, and striving to create a globally connected organization that consistently delivers value for our customers.
As customer demand rises, operational excellence and continuous learning will become just as important as expanding manufacturing capacity.
Alan: How is the Weidmann Academy supporting the industry?
Patrik: Developing knowledge has always been part of the Weidmann culture. For many years, we have invested in developing the expertise of our own people, and we are now offering that experience to our customers through the Weidmann Academy.
The Weidmann Academy is more than a training platform. It creates opportunities for engineers and specialists to exchange knowledge, deepen their understanding of insulation systems, and jointly develop solutions for increasingly demanding transformer applications.

Our technical specialists provide practical training on transformer insulation materials, application and design reviews, and how customers can strengthen their own capabilities while encouraging closer technical collaboration throughout the industry.
In a rapidly growing industry, knowledge sharing is a competitive advantage for everyone.

Alan: How do you see the energy market developing during the coming years?
Patrik: We are experiencing a long-term structural growth cycle rather than a short-term market upswing, driven by grid expansion, renewable energy, electrification, and the rapid growth of data centers. Demand for transformers, and therefore transformer insulation materials, will remain strong for many years.
This creates tremendous opportunities and increases expectations. Customers need dependable partners who can deliver consistently while responsibly expanding capacity. Throughout Weidmann, we are investing globally to strengthen regional supply chains, increase manufacturing capacity, and improve resilience to support our customers’ ambitious growth plans. Our objective is not simply to grow with the market, but to support our customers with consistent performance in the long term.

Alan: What does sustainability mean for Weidmann?
Patrik: Sustainability is closely linked to our purpose of improving living standards through sustainable innovation.
Our products enable a more reliable and efficient electricity network, supporting the global energy transition. Sustainability also means using resources responsibly. By improving process efficiency, reducing waste, increasing material utilization, and continuously optimizing our operations, we reduce our environmental footprint while creating value for our customers.
For us, sustainability is not a separate initiative; it is embedded in how we innovate, operate, and work together with our customers to build the energy infrastructure of the future.
