Niagara Power Transformer Breaks Ground on $71M Expansion
United States – Niagara Power Transformer broke ground on a $71 million expansion of its Cheektowaga, New York, manufacturing campus. The project will add 96,000 square feet and is expected to increase production capacity by approximately 50%, from 90 to 140 transformers annually.
The expansion includes new winding, assembly and tank fabrication facilities, alongside a vapor-phase drying system. Niagara manufactures liquid-filled power and specialty transformers.
The project is expected to create 73 permanent jobs, including 57 union positions, while retaining 146 employees.
“The grid in our country is outdated, and the demand for power has never been greater,” said Chris Kraft, president of Niagara Power Transformer.
The New York Power Authority has approved $4.5 million in support, while Empire State Development has awarded up to $3.4 million in performance-based tax credits. Local tax incentives are planned.
The expansion was previously announced in August, with completion expected within approximately two years.
