Hitachi Energy Invests $77 Million in Brazil Transformer Components

23 Oct 2026
Brazil – Hitachi Energy has announced a R$385 million ($77 million) investment to expand production of critical high-voltage transformer components in São Paulo state.

A new dedicated facility manufacturing bushings and tap changers will be built alongside its power transformer complex under construction in Pindamonhangaba. Insulation material production will also expand in Guarulhos. The two projects are expected to create more than 120 direct jobs.

The new plant will increase capacity for oil-impregnated paper (OIP), resin-impregnated paper (RIP) and paperless bushings. Planned upgrades include robotic automation, automated guided vehicles and digitalized operations.

“In 2026, we reached the milestone of 100,000 bushings and 4,000 tap changers produced locally over the past 40 years,” said Alexandre Malveiro, Hitachi Energy’s Transformers Hub LATAM Head.

The company said expanded local manufacturing should reduce reliance on imported components and shorten regional delivery times across Latin America. Its cumulative investment in Brazil now exceeds $350 million.
