ABB to supply 500 kV GIS and shunt reactors for major grid expansion in Egypt

CAIRO, EGYPT - Manufacturing company El Sewedy Electric T&D is embarking on Toshka 2 substation expansion project, which is an important step to transforming Egypt into a regional hub for electricity exchange with African and European countries.



For the project the company contracted ABB Power Grids to deliver high-voltage gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and shunt reactors to ensure reliable power supply.

Toshka 2 substation will feature six bays of 500 kV GIS as well as 500 kV shunt reactors.

This expansion is part of the second phase of the 300 MW electric interconnection project between Egypt and Sudan.
