GE Vernova to Acquire Trench Group for $9 Billion
United States – GE Vernova has agreed to acquire Trench Group from Triton Partners for $9 billion, expanding its portfolio of high-voltage grid equipment.
Announced October 28, the transaction is expected to close in late 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. Both companies will operate independently until completion.
Berlin-based Trench manufactures high-voltage transformer bushings, instrument transformers, coils and other transmission components across 11 factories in eight countries, employing more than 3,000 people.
The acquisition would integrate an existing GE Vernova supplier into its Electrification segment, expanding high-voltage component manufacturing capacity. Trench’s Charlotte, North Carolina, facility is expected to begin producing 765 kV equipment in late 2027.
Scott Strazik, GE Vernova’s CEO, said the acquisition would “further strengthen our ability to serve global customers.”
Trench CEO Dr. Bahadir Basdere, previously featured in TT’s CIGRE Paris 2024 interviews, leads the company.
GE Vernova projects Trench revenue of approximately $1.9 billion in 2028.
