Infineon, Enphase Develop 900 V GaN Switches for SSTs
Germany – Infineon Technologies will supply Enphase Energy with 900 V gallium nitride (GaN) bidirectional switches for its IQ solid-state transformer (SST) development program, targeting AI data center power systems.
The companies describe the CoolGaN devices as the first monolithic bidirectional GaN switches rated at 900 V. Their integrated design enables voltage blocking and current conduction in both directions, potentially reducing component counts and simplifying power conversion.
High-frequency switching could also reduce magnetic component size and increase power density. Enphase is developing SST systems for 800 VDC and future 1,500 VDC distribution, addressing growing data center power requirements.
Unlike conventional data center transformers, SSTs incorporate power electronics for voltage conversion and control.
The switches have completed initial testing and are being integrated into development builds. Production qualification is expected to follow, although no commercial availability date has been announced.
