50Hertz Installs Two Offshore Substations for Gennaker
50Hertz has completed installation of two offshore substations, OSS Darß and OSS Zingst, for the 976 MW Gennaker wind farm in Germany's Baltic Sea, advancing the OST-6-1 grid connection project.
The platforms will collect electricity from 63 turbines and step up voltage from 66 kV to 220 kV for transmission ashore.
Installed near the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula by Allseas' Pioneering Spirit, the substations support a 927 MW grid connection comprising three cable systems.
The approximately 90 km route includes up to 53 km offshore and 35 km onshore, terminating at Gnewitz substation.
The HSI joint venture—Smulders, HSM Offshore Energy and Iv-Offshore & Energy—is responsible for engineering, construction, installation and commissioning. Jacket foundations were secured before the topsides were installed, completing the offshore substation installation.
Gennaker is developed by OWP Gennaker, a joint venture of Skyborn Renewables and Stadtwerke München. Commissioning is targeted for 2028.
