KONČAR Wins $12.8M Phase-Shifting Transformer Deal
Croatia – Hrvatski operator prijenosnog sustava (HOPS) and KONČAR have signed a contract worth approximately $12.8 million (€11.5 million), excluding VAT, to supply and install a phase-shifting transformer (PST) at the Gračac substation.
The transformer will enable more precise control of active power flows, improving transmission network flexibility, operational security and use of existing infrastructure.
The investment is part of GreenSwitch, an EU-backed project involving seven partners from Croatia, Slovenia and Austria. The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Energy) will cover 50% of eligible project costs.
KONČAR President Gordan Kolak confirmed that several companies within the group will contribute to delivering the project. Kolak also discussed wider power industry challenges in a Power Systems Technology interview at CIGRE Paris 2026.
The agreement supports Croatia’s efforts to modernise transmission infrastructure as renewable generation increases, highlighting the importance of transformer procurement in grid development.
