ESB Networks Doubles Capacity at Drumline 110 kV Station
ESB Networks has completed a transformer upgrade at Drumline 110 kV Station near Shannon, Ireland, doubling installed capacity from 10 MVA to 20 MVA.
The project involved upgrading two existing 5 MVA transformers to 10 MVA units, energised in March and July 2026, respectively. The additional 10 MVA is equivalent to the capacity required for approximately 2,500 homes, including electrified heating and transport.
The upgrade supports growing residential, commercial and industrial electricity demand, enabling new connections and strengthening the regional network.
James Finn, Network Capacity Deployment Manager at ESB Networks, said: “The completed upgrade at Drumline 110 kV Station is a practical example of how ESB Networks is accelerating capacity in areas where demand is growing.”
The project forms part of ESB Networks’ Accelerated Capacity Programme under Price Review 6 (PR6), supporting wider electricity network reinforcement and Ireland’s electrification objectives.
