AFRY Wins Swissgrid Contract for Three 380 kV Substations
AFRY has secured an engineering contract from Swissgrid for three substations under Switzerland's Innertkirchen–Ulrichen transmission project.
The project will renew a 27 km transmission line, over 60 years old, preparing it for a future upgrade from 220 kV to 380 kV. Approximately 23 km will use underground cables.
AFRY will plan the new Oberwald substation, extensions to the Innertkirchen and Handeck substations, and associated civil works, building infrastructure and a microtunnel.
The project will use Building Information Modelling (BIM), supporting Swissgrid's target to standardise BIM across grid projects by 2027.
Fredrik Persson, AFRY's VP and Head of Segment Transmission and Distribution, said: “Modern and reliable transmission networks are critical to meeting future electricity demand and integrating more renewable energy.”
The upgrade aims to increase transmission capacity, support renewable electricity integration and improve grid reliability through high-voltage substation infrastructure.
