Southwest Electric Launches Power Transformer Manufacturing Division in Oklahoma City
Southwest Electric Co., part of the SGB-SMIT Group, is expanding its operations with the launch of a Power Transformer Division at its Oklahoma City campus. Manufacturing is set to begin soon, with product capabilities reaching up to 230 kV in later phases of development.
The new division marks a significant investment in U.S.-based transformer manufacturing and aims to strengthen supply chains for critical sectors including utilities, oil & gas, data centers, and renewable energy.
The expansion follows the acquisition of Southwest Electric Co. by the SGB-SMIT Group earlier this year, a global leader in transformer manufacturing. The move adds local capacity to SGB-SMIT's U.S. footprint and complements its existing operations, including affiliate OTC Services in Louisville, Ohio.
Founded in 1946, Southwest Electric is known for its custom transformer production, specialty switchgear, and industrial services. The company operates facilities in Oklahoma City and Tulsa (OK), Nashville (TN), and Louisville (OH), and now plays a key role in SGB-SMIT's North American growth strategy.
