Siemens Energy India Ltd has announced an investment of over $220 million to establish a new power transformer manufacturing facility. The board of directors approved $227 million in capital expenditure, to be funded through internal accruals. The location of the facility has not been disclosed.

The new plant will progressively achieve an annual production capacity of 30,000 MVA between 2030 and 2032. This follows the company’s earlier investments, including $43 million in 2023 to double transformer capacity at its Kalwa plant in Maharashtra and an additional $11 million in 2024 to expand the product range to large reactors.

The move responds to rising domestic and global demand for large transformers driven by energy transition and electrification trends. Siemens Energy India reported strong order inflows in Q1 FY26, with its unexecuted order book showing significant growth compared to the previous year.

Guilherme Mendonca, Managing Director & CEO of Siemens Energy India Ltd, said the investment supports the Make in India initiative and strengthens the local supply chain, enabling the company to meet the growing needs of India’s transmission and generation sectors.

The company’s accounting year runs from October 1 to September 30, making Q1 FY26 the period ending December 31, 2025. The new facility will complement ongoing global expansions, including a €220 million upgrade at Siemens Energy’s Nuremberg factory in Germany, enhancing worldwide transformer production capacity.
