Hyosung HICO and Quanta Form U.S. Breaker Manufacturing Joint Venture

15 Jun 2026
Hyosung Heavy Industries and Quanta Services have formed a joint venture to manufacture high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) circuit breakers in the United States, expanding domestic production capacity for critical power transmission equipment.

The new company, HYOSUNG HICO BREAKER, LLC, will operate from a refurbished facility in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, with commercial production scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026. The facility will be capable of manufacturing circuit breakers rated up to 800 kV.

According to the companies, the venture combines Hyosung HICO’s breaker technology and manufacturing expertise with Quanta Services’ U.S. production capabilities and power infrastructure experience. The investment comes amid increasing demand for grid equipment driven by data center growth, artificial intelligence infrastructure, electrification initiatives, and transmission network upgrades.

By localizing production, the joint venture aims to strengthen the domestic supply chain for critical grid components, reduce lead times, and support utility, industrial, and technology-sector customers across North America.

The project also expands Hyosung’s existing U.S. manufacturing footprint, which includes its transformer production facility in Memphis, Tennessee.

Commenting on the announcement, Cho Hyun-joon, Chairman of Hyosung, said the companies have already developed a strong partnership through cooperation on circuit breakers, substation equipment, transmission projects, and renewable energy developments. He added that the new venture, together with Hyosung’s U.S. manufacturing experience, will help strengthen the company’s position as a “total solution provider” in the U.S. power market.
