CGES Plans 400/110 kV Substation in Montenegro
Transmission system operator Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem (CGES) has secured shareholder approval for $44.7 million (€40 million) in grid infrastructure, including a 400/110 kV substation to connect two wind farms totalling 488 MW.
The projects comprise Sinjajevina 1 (136 MW), developed by Energy 2, and Sinjajevina 2 (352 MW), led by N1, SISTEM-MNE and Permonte.
CGES identified no technical barriers to grid connection. Under the approved arrangement, the Sinjajevina 2 consortium will construct the substation and associated transmission links. CGES will subsequently acquire the infrastructure through payments spread over ten years.
The new substation and associated assets are expected to enter service in 2030, with positive returns projected from 2033 under the regulatory asset base framework.
Transformer specifications for the Sinjajevina substation have not yet been disclosed.
