Cargill and CHINT Launch World’s First 750kV Natural Ester-Filled Transformer
CHINT, one of China's largest energy companies and the country's leader in low-voltage electrical appliances, has developed the first-ever 750kV natural ester-filled transformer in collaboration with Cargill. This groundbreaking achievement highlights a significant leap in transformer technology, thanks to the use of Cargill's FR3® fluid, a plant-based, environmentally friendly natural ester.
The 120MVA single-phase transformer utilizes FR3 fluid due to its K-class rating, exceptional fire safety, biodegradability, and excellent dielectric properties that make it ideal for ultra-high voltage applications. The development passed all Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) under the third-party oversight of the Power Industry Electrical Equipment Inspection and Testing Center of the State Grid Corporation of China.
Mr. Huang, Manager of the Design Department at CHINT's Transformer Division, emphasized that the successful deployment of this 750kV transformer validates the feasibility of using natural ester fluids for ultra-high voltage applications. The new transformer pushes the boundaries of transformer design, reducing maintenance requirements while extending insulation life by up to eight times compared to traditional mineral oil-filled transformers.
