SMA, Westrafo expand U.S. transformer supply
SMA America is expanding domestic sourcing of medium-voltage transformers manufactured by Westrafo in Dayton, Ohio, as part of its U.S. localization strategy.
Westrafo, a long-standing SMA partner in Europe, is producing transformers in Ohio for SMA’s large-scale energy solutions. SMA sources the locally manufactured equipment as a critical component of its U.S. systems, bringing transformer supply closer to project sites and reducing exposure to global supply chain disruptions.
“Producing transformers in Ohio through our trusted partner Westrafo strengthens our ability to serve customers with solutions that are increasingly rooted in the U.S. market,” said Jeppe Johansen, managing director, large scale service and operations at SMA America.
The companies said domestic production is intended to improve supply chain transparency and responsiveness.
“This collaboration highlights our growing footprint in the U.S. energy market and proves what’s possible when custom engineering meets uncompromised quality,” said Alberto Cracco, CEO of Westrafo.
