Massive 105-Transformer BESS Project Enters Construction Phase in Poland

Greenvolt Power has started construction of a 600 MW/2.4 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Siedlce, Poland, with commercial operation targeted for the end of 2027. The project will include 210 battery containers and 105 transformer containers equipped with power conversion systems to connect the storage facility to the grid.
BYD Energy Storage will supply the battery technology, while P&Q will connect the facility to the 400-kV transmission network operated by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE). Connection works include a new 400/110-kV substation and 400-kV and 110-kV cable links.
The BESS will charge during periods of high renewable generation and discharge when demand rises, supporting grid flexibility and renewable integration.
Greenvolt already operates a 200 MW/800 MWh BESS at Turośń Kościelna and plans to commission another 200 MW/800 MWh facility at Ełk in Q4 2026. Once all three projects operate, its Polish portfolio will reach 1 GW/4 GWh.
