ReÈ›ele Electrice, a leading electricity distribution company in Romania, has launched a public tender valued at approximately $11.6 million (55 million RON), excluding VAT, for the acquisition of transformers aimed at modernizing its distribution networks. These transformers, ranging from medium voltage to low voltage, are intended to enhance the resilience and reliability of the grid.

According to Mihai Pește, Director General of Rețele Electrice, the new equipment will play a key role in improving grid stability, energy distribution, and integrating renewable energy sources. "With this purchase, we want to ensure that our electricity grid will become more resilient in the long term," he noted.

The upgraded transformers will replace older models, contributing to lower operational costs, fewer grid interruptions, and reduced technological consumption. Sustainability is a key factor in the selection process, with extra points given to bidders offering environmentally friendly packaging solutions.

This two-year contract is part of Rețele Electrice's broader strategy to modernize its extensive network, which spans 134,000 kilometers across South Muntenia, Banat, and Dobrogea. The company operates over 289 transformer stations and 25,000 substations, serving a third of Romania's electricity distribution market. As part of the PPC Group, Rețele Electrice is dedicated to improving service quality, ensuring grid safety, and integrating environmental standards.
