Montenegro Strengthens Grid with New Transformer
Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System (CGES) has completed the replacement of a 150 MVA power transformer at the Mojkovac substation, strengthening the reliability and flexibility of Montenegro’s transmission network.
The $2,5 million (€2.2 million) transformer has a 220/110/10.5 kV voltage rating and was commissioned following slightly more than a month of work by the contractor and CGES technical teams.
“All technical and organizational challenges were successfully overcome, and the new transformer, worth $2,5 million (€2.2 million), has been commissioned and is ready to contribute to the safer and more reliable operation of the power system,” CGES said.
The project forms part of a wider $5,1 million (€4.4 million) investment to replace two ageing 150 MVA transformers at the Mojkovac and Podgorica 1 substations.
CGES said the upgrades will improve the safety and stability of Montenegro’s electricity system while supporting future network development and the connection of new generation capacity.
“Investments of this kind are important in multiple respects – not only for ensuring a reliable electricity supply today, but also for creating the necessary technical conditions for further system development, the connection of new generation capacities, and the energy transition that lies ahead,” - CGES said.
The Mojkovac project further strengthens transmission infrastructure in northern Montenegro and supports the country’s ongoing grid modernization.
