LS Electric Triples Transformer Output with New Busan Plant
LS Electric has completed construction of its second ultrahigh-voltage (UHV) transformer plant at its Busan complex, expanding production capacity as demand grows in global power-equipment markets, particularly in North America.
The new facility in Gangseo-gu, Busan, spans 18,059 square meters and required an investment of 100.8 billion won ($68.5 million). According to the company, the expansion will triple annual UHV transformer output, increasing production value from 200 billion won to 600 billion won. The Busan site is expected to generate more than 1 trillion won in standalone sales next year.
The complex remains Korea’s only manufacturing base for high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transformers, enabling the company to respond to rising government and industry demand for HVDC transmission systems.
At the completion ceremony, Chairman and CEO Koo Ja-kyun said the company has invested aggressively to strengthen its competitiveness and reinforce global supply capabilities.
LS Electric is currently benefiting from a global upcycle driven by data-center expansion, infrastructure modernization, and renewable-energy growth. The U.S. transformer market alone is projected to more than double—from $12.2 billion in 2023 to $25.7 billion in 2034.
The company recently secured contracts for distribution systems for North American data centers and won a major UHV transformer order from a regional utility. LS Electric said it plans to continue expanding production and sales capacity to reinforce its position in the global market.
