Zeppelin Group has acquired BEFRA Energietechnik GmbH, a German company specializing in the manufacture and rental of mobile transformer substations. Based in Leutkirch im Allgäu, BEFRA has nearly 25 years of experience serving construction, renewable energy, and utility sectors.

The acquisition will integrate BEFRA into Zeppelin Rentals’ Energy, Climate and Water division, adding approximately 70 mobile transformers to its fleet. The move is aimed at meeting growing demand for electricity infrastructure in construction sites and renewable energy projects.

Christoph Afheldt, a member of Zeppelin Rental’s management board, said the expansion supports the company’s goal to reduce reliance on external suppliers while enhancing service offerings and technical expertise.

The division also provides planning, installation, and servicing of construction site infrastructure, including temporary water and energy solutions. With the acquisition, Zeppelin Rental will expand beyond rentals into manufacturing and sales of transformers.

Timo Heitkamp, head of the division, highlighted that the deal allows sustainable growth in a sector previously affected by long delivery times and limited availability, and brings in technical expertise from the former BEFRA owners.

Zeppelin Rental operates over 185 locations across Europe, including Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and the Netherlands, employing around 2,500 staff.
