Wyoming regulators approve $3b HVDC transmission project to link Wyoming and Nevada
Wyoming's Industrial Siting Council has given green light to the TransWest Express (TWE) renewable power transmission line that will link Wyoming and Nevada.
The developer of this $3 billion project still needs to obtain some approvals from Utah and Nevada counties, expected to be secured by end-2019, and hopes to be able to launch construction of the 730-mile system next year, reports Renewables Now.
The high-voltage direct current (HVDC) TWE link, which will be able to transmit between 1.5 GW and 3 GW of renewable power, will be installed south of Rawlins and Sinclair in central Wyoming and will interconnect with the local power grid.
It will then extend to a terminal near Delta in Utah and reach the Marketplace Hub near Hoover Dam in southern Nevada, which provides interconnections to the California, Nevada and Arizona grids.
