Wilson Transformers Support France’s Largest Battery Storage Site
The Cernay-lès-Reims Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in north-eastern France has entered commercial operations, marking a major milestone for the country’s energy storage sector.
Developed by TagEnergy, the 240MW/480MWh facility is now the largest operational battery storage project in France. The site uses 140 Tesla Megapack battery units and connects to the national 225kV transmission network through RTE.
Wilson Power Solutions supplied the transformers supporting the project’s grid connection and operation. The company provided seventy-one 4.2MVA 33kV/480-480kV Wilson T2 Ecotrans Large Distribution Transformers, alongside two 100/130MVA 225/33kV transformers and two 150kVA 33kV/415V auxiliary earthing transformers.
The facility can supply power to around 60,000 homes for two hours and is designed to improve grid flexibility by helping integrate renewable energy generation while supporting system stability.
The project is more than twice the size of the next-largest operational battery storage facility in France, underlining the growing role of large-scale energy storage in the country’s electricity infrastructure.
