Wilson Power Transformers Supports France’s Largest Battery Storage Project
The Chevrié 100MW/200MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Nantes Saint-Nazaire Harbour, France, has started operations, with Wilson Power Transformers providing critical transformer equipment for the facility. The site, located on a former fossil fuel power plant and adjacent to the local grid operator's substation, is one of the largest utility-scale battery storage installations in the country.
Developed by Harmony Energy, the project includes 52 Tesla Megapacks and a Tesla Autobidder, capable of supplying electricity to approximately 170,000 homes for two hours. The transformers supplied by Wilson Power Transformers are essential for connecting the battery units to the grid, enabling safe and efficient energy transfer and supporting the overall stability of the facility.
This deployment highlights the importance of transformer technology in large-scale battery energy storage systems, which are increasingly used to balance grid demand and integrate renewable energy sources. By providing transformers for major BESS projects in France and Belgium, Wilson Power Transformers continues to support the development of Europe's energy storage infrastructure.
The Chevrié BESS demonstrates how utility-scale battery storage, combined with high-performance transformers, can contribute to reliable and flexible electricity supply in regions adopting renewable energy.
