Weidmann Expands Transformer Insulation Production Capacity in North America
Weidmann Electrical Technology has announced plans to build a new Transformerboard Production Facility in Middletown, Ohio, as part of a global investment programme exceeding $500 million.
The expansion is aimed at increasing manufacturing capacity, strengthening regional supply chains and supporting rising demand for power transformer insulation materials as countries upgrade electricity infrastructure and expand renewable energy generation.
The new Ohio facility will be developed through the redevelopment of a 350,000-square-foot brownfield site and will feature advanced production equipment designed to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality and reliability. Production is expected to begin in 2028.
“Demand for reliable electrical infrastructure continues to grow around the world,” said Patrik Gareus, Executive Vice President of Weidmann Electrical Technology. “This investment strengthens our ability to support customers with locally manufactured, high-quality insulation materials while reinforcing our long-term commitment to the regions where we operate.”
The Ohio project is part of Weidmann’s wider global expansion strategy, which includes recent investments in transformerboard and component production facilities in the United States, China, Croatia and Mexico.
The company said the Middletown location provides access to the Cincinnati-Dayton manufacturing corridor and will support long-term growth in the North American market.
The project is being developed with support from regional and state partners, including the Ohio Department of Development, JobsOhio, REDI Cincinnati, Dayton Development Coalition, Duke Energy, and local authorities.
