WEG to supply 21 transformers for modernization of Brazil’s Ilha Solteira hydroelectric plant

7 Aug 2020
SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL - WEG has been awarded a contract by CTG Brasil to supply 21 transformers of 205 MVA, 440 kV that will be installed at the Ilha Solteira Hydroelectric Plant, located on the Paraná River, between the municipalities of Ilha Solteira (SP) and Selvíria (MS).

The contract is part of the plant modernization project that has been in progress since 2017.
Initially, the equipment was expected to be replaced in stages over a ten-year project period, but the equipment will be delivered in much shorter time.
The new transformers are highly efficient and have a life expectancy of at least 35 years.
"These transformers will not only replace the old equipment, but also avoid interruptions in the generation of energy and guarantee the plant's operation during the concession, minimizing operational risks and [necessity to] shut down or stop machines," said Carlos Diether Prinz, Managing Director of WEG T&D.
