WEG Supplies Transformers for Ras Al-Khair Water Project in the Middle East
WEG has delivered a complete package of electrical solutions, with a particular focus on power transformers, for a large-scale water pumping system in the Ras Al-Khair region of the Middle East. The project will transmit 1.2 million cubic meters of potable water per day through a 391-kilometer pipeline, serving as one of the region's most extensive water supply systems.
The supply includes high-voltage transformers, W60 motors, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) engineered to ensure reliability and energy efficiency under continuous heavy-duty operation. The transformers play a critical role in managing power distribution and voltage regulation for the pumping stations, supporting stable performance across the system's multiple operational zones.
In total, WEG provided 40 high-voltage W60 motors rated between 1,700 kW and 9,100 kW, integrated with corresponding VFDs and transformers. By centralizing the electrical package through a single supplier, the project benefits from optimized compatibility between equipment, simplified maintenance, and enhanced system reliability--key considerations for infrastructure operating in demanding environments.
The transformers are designed for high efficiency, low losses, and robust thermal performance, contributing to reduced operational costs and improved energy management within the pumping network.
