WEG Invests $77M to Expand Transformer Production in Missouri

24 Sep 2025
WEG has announced a $77 million investment in its Specialty Transformer facility in Washington, Missouri, as part of a plan to expand its manufacturing capacity and support the growing demands of the U.S. energy infrastructure.

The project focuses on increasing the production of transformers with power ratings from 1 to 10 MVA and voltages up to 46.5 kV, components essential for sectors like industrial manufacturing, data centers, energy storage, and grid stability.

The investment will fund automation and robotic integration aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and increasing production capacity by 50%. The move is expected to improve vertical integration, responsiveness to market needs, and overall product quality.

"This investment reinforces our commitment to the United States market and our ongoing pursuit of operational excellence," said Carlos Diether Prinz, Managing Director of Transmission and Distribution at WEG.

Phillip James, Vice President of Transmission and Distribution for WEG USA, emphasized the community impact, noting the creation of 50 new jobs and the company's strong ties with local and state authorities. "We are investing in infrastructure, innovation, and above all, in people," he stated.

Currently, WEG operates three transformer manufacturing sites in Washington, Missouri--Distribution, Power, and Specialty Transformers--with a combined workforce of 560 employees. The expansion positions WEG to strengthen its role in advancing the reliability and modernization of the U.S. power grid.
