WALDEVAR, GEN-I Sonce Sign HV EPC Contract in Romania

29 Jun 2026
WALDEVAR Energy and GEN-I Sonce have formalized a new engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) agreement for the delivery of the Gheorgheni 110 kV, 63 MVA substation, marking a notable step in their emerging collaboration focused on grid-scale infrastructure.

The project scope includes full EPC execution of the high-voltage substation alongside associated transmission system operator (TSO) grid connection works. The infrastructure is designed to support the integration of renewable generation and storage assets into the transmission network, reinforcing the growing demand for grid reinforcement across Central and Eastern Europe.

The agreement was signed during Intersolar Europe 2026, where WALDEVAR presented its integrated energy portfolio spanning utility-scale EPC, floating photovoltaics, BESS, wind, SCADA systems, robotics, and operations and maintenance services. The context underscores a broader industry shift toward vertically integrated delivery models capable of handling both generation and grid connection assets.

Commenting on the partnership, Cristian Dragomir, CEO of WALDEVAR Energy, emphasized the strategic importance of grid infrastructure in the energy transition: “This agreement represents a key step in our partnership with GEN-I Sonce and reflects the confidence built through successful proven track record. Delivering critical grid infrastructure is essential to accelerating Europe’s energy transition, and we are proud to contribute our engineering expertise and execution capabilities along with testing and commissioning experience to projects that strengthen the resilience and reliability of the transmission network.”

From the client side, Gregor Hudohmet, CEO of GEN-I Sonce, highlighted the collaborative nature of the project: “Our first collaboration with WALDEVAR Energy reflects a shared commitment to delivering high-quality energy infrastructure. We are pleased to build on our partnership through this new substation project and look forward to successful delivery together.”
