Virginia Transformer Supplies High-Capacity Unit to Strengthen Texas Power Network
Virginia Transformer has delivered a new high-capacity transformer to Oncor, Texas’ largest energy delivery company. The unit, rated at 28/46.7 MVA and 138/26.4 kV, was built at Virginia Transformer’s Pocatello facility and designed for a 60-year lifespan to support decades of reliable electricity service.
Oncor operates over 144,000 miles of power lines, serving more than 400 communities across the state. The addition of this transformer will help the utility strengthen the local grid and improve overall reliability for residential and commercial customers.
The project highlights the role of specialized transformer manufacturing in supporting grid modernization and infrastructure resilience. Logistics and delivery planning ensured the unit was safely transported and installed, meeting operational timelines for one of the country’s largest utilities.
Virginia Transformer emphasized its commitment to providing reliable transformers with short lead times for utilities nationwide. The company credited Charley Harwell of Oberlender Company, the manufacturers’ representative who led the sale, along with all teams involved in the design, manufacturing, and delivery of the unit.
