Virginia Transformer Delivers Two Transformers to Chevron Phillips Sweeny Complex
Virginia Transformer Corp. has delivered two power distribution transformers to the Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) Sweeny Complex in Texas. Built at Virginia Transformer’s Pocatello facility, the units are designed with a 60-year lifespan and rated at 60/100 MVA, 138/34.5 kV.
The transformers will support long-term reliable power distribution across the facility, which has been in operation since 1944 and is one of the world’s largest single-site ethylene complexes. Located approximately 50 miles southwest of Houston, the Sweeny Complex is adjacent to the Phillips 66 Refinery and has the capacity to produce more than 11 million pounds of ethylene per day.
Margaret Coco, the manufacturers’ representative from Double E Engineering, led the sale, while the design, manufacturing, and delivery were carried out by Virginia Transformer’s engineering and production teams.
The transformers form part of ongoing efforts to maintain and modernize industrial power infrastructure at large-scale chemical facilities. The units are expected to provide decades of stable and efficient power, supporting both operational continuity and facility growth.
