Virginia Transformer Breaks Ground on Georgia Expansion to Boost Capacity
U.S.-based manufacturer Virginia Transformer Corp has broken ground on a major expansion of its Georgia Transformer (GTC) facility in Rincon, Georgia, aimed at increasing production capacity for large power transformers.
The project marks a significant investment in domestic manufacturing, as demand for grid infrastructure and power equipment continues to rise across the United States.
According to the company:
“Virginia Transformer today broke ground on a major expansion at its Georgia Transformer (GTC) manufacturing facility in Rincon, Georgia, marking the latest investment in the company’s growing production capacity for large power transformers and further solidifying its long-held position of having the shortest lead times for customers.”
The expansion is expected to create approximately 400 new jobs and increase the facility’s production capacity by 50%, supporting the growing need for transformers used in transmission networks, substations, and industrial applications.
The company also highlighted the introduction of advanced manufacturing features at the site, including a digital production environment, real-time project tracking for customers, and an automated warehouse system to improve efficiency and logistics.
In addition, the expansion will include workforce development initiatives, such as an apprenticeship programme for technicians, aimed at strengthening skills in the power engineering sector.
The investment reflects broader trends in the energy industry, where transformer supply constraints and long lead times have become a key bottleneck in delivering new grid infrastructure and supporting electrification, renewable integration, and data centre growth.
By expanding manufacturing capacity, Virginia Transformer aims to help address these challenges and support faster deployment of critical electrical infrastructure across North America.
