Virginia Transformer Announces Expansion With New Plant in Muscle Shoals
Virginia Transformer has announced plans to build a new 600,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, as part of its ongoing expansion across North America.
The new plant, which will be located at the Shoals Research Airpark in Colbert County, is expected to create approximately 1,100 jobs once fully operational. According to the company, the facility will manufacture a range of power transformers from 2 MVA up to 500 MVA and will become Virginia Transformer’s seventh North American manufacturing site.
The project includes a dedicated rail spur supported through Alabama’s “Growing Alabama” program, automated warehousing systems, digital manufacturing tools, and an on-site training center. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately, with initial production targeted for January 2028.
The expansion comes alongside ongoing work at the company’s facility in Rincon, Georgia, where installed production capacity is expected to increase by 50 percent by March 2027.
In a statement, Prabhat Jain, CEO of Virginia Transformer, said the investment reflects growing demand tied to heavy manufacturing, mining, grid expansion, energy infrastructure, and data centers.
State and regional officials, including Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, welcomed the announcement, highlighting the project’s expected economic impact and long-term job creation in the region.
