Veidekke to Build $130.6M Worth of Substations in Norway for Statnett

24 Jun 2025
Veidekke has secured a nearly Nkr1.3bn ($130.6 million) contract from Statnett, Norway's state-owned grid operator, for the design and construction of three new substations in the municipalities of Øygarden, Vik, and Modalen.

The contract includes foundation, construction, and concrete work, along with access roads, rock work, transformer shafts, and multiple technical buildings both above and below ground. The substations will be rated for 420kV, forming part of a broader initiative to modernise Norway's power infrastructure and support the national green transition.

Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2025 in Øygarden, followed by work in Vik and Modalen, with completion expected in 2028. Final installation and trial operations will lead to handover by autumn 2030.

The project is part of Statnett's strategy to upgrade transmission infrastructure between Sogndal and Sauda via Kollsnes, enhancing capacity and resilience. Procurement is being managed on behalf of Statnett and its energy partners, BKK and Eviny Fornybar.

Hans Olav Sørlie, EVP of Veidekke Bygg, stated: "Building critical infrastructure is something we really appreciate doing... We are grateful for the confidence shown in us and look forward to a close partnership with Statnett."

This award follows recent wins for Veidekke, including a Nkr400m contract for a treatment plant in Kongshaugen, and a Swedish defence facility project via its subsidiary Veitech.
