VanTran Transformers, a leading manufacturer of oil-filled transformers, has announced a significant expansion in Waco, Texas. The company, which has operated in Waco since 1974, was recently acquired by MGM Transformers, one of North America's largest distribution transformer manufacturers.

The $20 million project includes the construction of a 430,000 square-foot manufacturing facility, set to bring up to 700 jobs to the area over the next five years while retaining VanTran's existing 198-person workforce. Construction is already underway, with production expected to commence in the first quarter of 2025.

Doug Banty, CEO of MGM Transformers, highlighted the project's community impact, stating, "This partnership between our business and the City of Waco will bring more jobs to the community and gives VanTran and MGM Transformers the opportunity for further growth."

Local leaders, including Waco Mayor Jim Holmes and McLennan County Judge Scott Felton, praised the expansion, emphasizing its role in bolstering the local economy and supporting critical infrastructure development for Texas and the U.S.

The project has requested local community support, potentially including property tax incentives and grants through the Waco-McLennan County Economic Development Corporation.
