UGL Secures Electrical Infrastructure Contract from Western Power for Clean Energy Project

21 Jan 2025
UGL, a member of the CIMIC Group, has secured a contract to deliver key electricity infrastructure works for Western Power, a government-owned corporation responsible for operating the South West Interconnecting System (SWIS) in Western Australia (WA). The contract involves the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of extensions to the existing Neerabup 132kV and 330kV substations, located approximately 40 km north of Perth, WA.

This work is part of the Clean Energy Link - North project, funded by the WA Government. The project aims to enhance WA's largest electricity network and facilitate a greater supply of renewable energy from the Wheatbelt and Mid West regions.

Doug Moss, Managing Director of UGL, highlighted the company's leadership in critical electricity infrastructure across Australia, noting UGL's strong presence in WA, including its involvement in renewable energy asset construction and the upgrade and maintenance of Western Power's network. He expressed excitement at continuing the company's partnership with Western Power to support the Clean Energy Link program and the transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy system.

Sam Barbaro, CEO of Western Power, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in helping the state meet its decarbonization goals. He noted that strengthening the network and harnessing WA's renewable resources would be key to achieving a cleaner energy future.

UGL is set to begin work in February 2025 as part of the two-year contract.
