U.S. Data Center Boom Drives Record Q1 for Korean Power Equipment Makers
According to Maeil Business reporting, the U.S. data center boom is driving record first‑quarter sales for South Korea’s top power equipment makers.
The companies—HD Hyundai Electric, Hyosung Heavy Industries, and LS ELECTRIC—are each expected to report Q1 sales in excess of $860 million to $1.06 billion. Specifically, analysts project first‑quarter revenue of about $870 million for HD Hyundai Electric, $1.07 billion for Hyosung Heavy Industries, and $1.06 billion for LS ELECTRIC, with corresponding strong operating profits.
Industry observers point to the growing U.S. market share as the primary driver. At HD Hyundai Electric, approximately 65% of its order backlog relates to North American projects, and its U.S. sales share—close to 40% last year—is expected to climb further. Demand for 765 kV‑class extra‑high‑voltage transformers in the U.S. remains strong, making the region highly profitable.
Hyosung Heavy Industries is also benefiting from a rising portion of U.S. sales, which analysts expect will exceed 30% as output from its Changwon plant increases later this year. In response to growing demand, both companies are expanding local operations: HD Hyundai Electric is constructing a second plant in Montgomery, Alabama, targeted for completion in April 2027, while Hyosung already operates U.S. production facilities.
Analysts say LS ELECTRIC is meeting requirements from major technology players with modular solutions that reduce on‑site construction time, positioning it to benefit from the broader power infrastructure transition driven by data center growth.
