Two Supergrid Transformers Arrive at Argyll Substation in Scotland
Two supergrid transformers have been delivered to the Creag Dhubh substation in Argyll, Scotland, marking a key construction milestone for the electricity transmission project.
The transformers were transported from Poland to Clydebank before being moved approximately 90 miles to the substation near Cladich. The delivery involved Hitachi Energy, specialist logistics companies Allelys and Fracht, as well as Transport Scotland, Police Scotland, BT and local authorities.
The transformers are now positioned at the site, with work continuing towards energising the substation. The project forms part of wider SSEN Transmission network upgrades in Argyll designed to support additional renewable generation and strengthen the local electricity network.
Lee Biddulph, Project Manager for the Creag Dhubh project, described the safe delivery as a significant achievement and said the transformers will play a role in enabling more renewable generation and supporting energy security.
The wider investment planned across Argyll and Bute is valued at £1.3 billion, with around £216 million expected to be awarded to local businesses.
