Trench Group Acquires H Nu to Boost HVDC Measurement Capabilities
Trench Group, a global provider of high-voltage transmission components, has announced the acquisition of Australian technology firm H Nu, marking its first strategic acquisition aimed at strengthening its position in the HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) sector.
The move expands Trench Group's portfolio with cutting-edge fiber-optic instrument transformer technology, enabling faster response times and more accurate high-voltage measurements. These next-generation optical transformers are particularly advantageous for HVDC systems, which are increasingly important as power grids become more complex and decentralized.
Initial deployments of the technology have already been successful in international transmission networks. Trench Group is now working with system integrators to qualify the solution as a future industry standard and prepare for large-scale production.
"This acquisition will enhance our leadership in both HVAC and HVDC markets," said Dr. Bahadir Basdere, CEO of Trench Group. "We are excited to bring faster, more flexible, and reliable measurement technologies to global customers."
With more than a century of experience and a global presence, Trench Group is a key player in the energy transition, offering components such as bushings, coils, and instrument transformers used for measurement, protection, and connection in the power grid.
