Transforming Energy: Argentina Seeks Bids for Power Transformer Stations

13 Nov 2023

Argentina is taking a significant step towards bolstering its power infrastructure with the launch of a grid work inspection tender by the federal transmission trust fund (FFTEF). The initiative, centered in the Chaco province and backed by IDB financing, is part of an ambitious expansion plan approved last year.

The project encompasses the expansion of the 132kV Charata-Villa Ángela line and the construction of transformer stations in Villa Ángela Norte, Santa Sylvina, and General Pinedo, with a total estimated outlay of US$72.1mn.

As outlined in Argentina's 2035 national electric power transport plan, the broader initiative involves constructing 11,800km of power lines and installing 16,000MVA of transformer capacity, with a projected total expenditure of US$9.9bn. A substantial portion of this investment is earmarked for 500kV projects. The Chaco undertaking is part of a series of regional expansion projects at 132kV and 220kV levels, all supported by the IDB. Additional related tenders are already in progress.
