South Africa, Johannesburg - A transformer at a City Power substation in Johannesburg's suburb of Houghton was stolen on Monday, affecting power in many surrounding areas.

"City Power has had its transformer stolen at a substation in Houghton. It is not clear how this happened or who was involved, but a case has been opened," City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said, reports Rosebank Killarney Gazette.

The substation is located in 9th Avenue, Houghton Estate, outside the Old Eds Virgin Active.
