Transformer catches fire at LG&E substation outside New Albany

NEW ALBANY, INDIANA - Firefighters spent hours extinguishing a massive fire at an LG&E's energy substation outside of New Albany, Indiana, reports Wave 3 News.


The fire started around 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Hwy 111 at the LG&E Paddy's West Substation when a transformer inside the substation caught fire, according to LG&E spokeswoman Chris Whelan.

There were no employees inside the substation when it caught fire.

LG&E said there were no reported power outages in the area and customers should not be impacted.
