Toyota’s Sorocaba Expansion to Use WEG Transformers
Toyota, the world's largest automaker, has announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing complex in Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brazil, as part of a national restructuring plan. The expanded facility will cover 400,000 m², roughly equivalent to 40 football fields, and will consolidate operations for stamping, bodywork, and final vehicle assembly.
As part of the infrastructure project--Project ON 09400 - TOYOTA DO BRASIL LTDA--WEG has been selected to supply dry-type transformers totaling over 45 MVA of installed capacity. These transformers are essential to powering the new hybrid flex-fuel vehicle production lines, including units specifically designed to support robotic welding operations.
Some transformers will feature custom electrical characteristics for specialized use, while others will function as step-down units to ensure stable power supply across various industrial processes.
WEG's involvement underscores its ability to provide highly engineered solutions tailored to modern manufacturing demands. The selection highlights WEG's commitment to innovation and energy efficiency within Brazil's growing automotive industry.
This collaboration positions both Toyota and WEG as key contributors to the advancement of industrial technology and clean mobility solutions in Latin America.
