Toshiba Commits $370 Million to Expand Power Equipment Production
Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation has announced a ¥55 billion (about $370 million) investment to expand its power transmission and distribution (T&D) equipment production capacity in Japan and India by fiscal year 2027.
The move is in response to growing global electricity demand and builds upon a previously announced ¥20 billion investment ($135 million) in 2024. The updated plan adds another ¥35 billion ($235 million) for facility upgrades at Hamakawasaki Operations in Kawasaki, Japan, and Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd. (TTDI) in Hyderabad.
According to Hiroshi Kaneta, Vice President of the Grid Solution Division at Toshiba, electricity demand is accelerating due to aging infrastructure, renewable energy expansion, and rising data center construction in Japan. In India, the increase is being driven by rapid economic growth, urbanization, and renewable energy adoption.
The company aims to more than double its combined T&D equipment production capacity by FY2030, compared to FY2024 levels. Investments will go toward modernizing production lines, upgrading factory infrastructure, and addressing site-specific needs. In Japan, this includes renovating employee welfare facilities. In India, TTDI will expand its product lineup for both domestic and global markets, including North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
Toshiba, which has over 100 years of experience in T&D equipment manufacturing, plans to use its expertise to support the development of stable, resilient power grids worldwide.
