21 Nov 2024
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) is set to construct 13 new substations with a capacity of 33/11 kV across Chennai and Kancheepuram zones. The project, valued at $32.6 million, was announced by Electricity Minister V. Senthil Balaji during a recent meeting.

Nine of these substations will be located in Chennai and four in Kancheepuram, addressing the growing power demand, particularly during the summer. Additionally, 16 transformers in Chennai and five in Kancheepuram will be upgraded to enhance power distribution reliability.

The Minister also emphasized preparedness for the monsoon, urging officials to accelerate biller box heightening works in these zones.

In parallel, the TNEB has completed the installation of 5,433 Ring Main Units (RMUs) in the two zones at a cost of $94.1 million and plans to install additional RMUs in Chennai for $6.1 million.
