The Town of Ferdinand replaces old substation

27 Jun 2019

FERDINAND, INDIANA - The Town of Ferdinand, Indiana, has embarked on phase two of a three-phase project that will ultimately replace a decades-old substation and upgrade electric equipment in the town's innermost areas.

The substation that is being replaced is one of the two facilities powering the town. Phase 1 of the project involved installation of an interim transformer on the same grounds as the existing stations, reports The Herald.

Phase 2 is a longer and more costly process and involves constructing the new substation. The town already approved the purchase of a new substation transformer from Pennsylvania Transformer Technology Inc.

The old substation transformer was installed in 1967 and it is not compatible with the second transformer, which runs at higher voltage.

Once the upgrade is completed, one substation will be enough to power the whole town, which gives the town a back-up for maintenance and should help cut down on the number of planned power outages.
