TGP Delivers Transformers for SunZia Wind, Largest Wind Project in Western Hemisphere

21 Aug 2024

Trans Global Projects (TGP) has successfully delivered two 238-metric-tonne transformers to Pattern Energy's SunZia Wind project in New Mexico. The transformers are part of the largest wind energy project currently under construction in the Western Hemisphere, with a capacity of over 3.5 GW.

The delivery was coordinated by TGP Houston, with assistance from the company's office in Bremen, Germany. The two transformers were shipped from Europe to the United States via part-charter and then transported by specialized train carriages to the project site. This is just one of many shipments TGP has been entrusted with as part of the project, which includes deliveries to sites in Arizona and New Mexico.

In total, TGP will move 38,000 freight tonnes of equipment, including an additional 15 transformers, with project completion expected by the second quarter of 2025.

The SunZia Wind project features GE Vernova's 3.6-154 turbines, specifically designed for the U.S. market, and will play a pivotal role in expanding wind energy infrastructure across the region.
