TenneT starts testing STATCOM technology at Wilster converter station

23 Apr 2020

GERMANY - NordLink, the first direct electricity connection between Germany and Norway, has reached another milestone with the testing of the STATCOM technology which started at the Wilster converter station in Germany.

During the test, the converter system runs in reactive power mode before the entire system including the DC cable is tested for operational suitability.

NordLink is the HVDC interconnector that will enable the exchange of 1,400 megawatts of renewable energy between the two countries - wind power from Germany and hydropower from Norway.

The exchange of energy via NordLink will increase security of energy supply for both the German and Norwegian electricity grids.
