Tempel Canada Opens New $120M Transformer Component Plant in Burlington

29 Jun 2026
Tempel Canada has officially opened a new $120 million manufacturing plant in Burlington, Ontario. The high-tech, 2,400-square-meter facility is specifically engineered to expand production capacity for critical power infrastructure equipment. This expansion directly addresses the surging demand for magnetic steel laminations and electrical transformer cores as utilities across North America race to modernize and reinforce the electrical grid.

The state-of-the-art facility replaces the company's older site on North Service Road. It features optimized floor layouts and advanced industrial machinery to handle large-scale manufacturing workflows. By expanding its regional footprint, the company has added approximately 100 new skilled manufacturing jobs, significantly boosting local employment while securing the supply chain for North American utilities and equipment OEMs.

Company leadership emphasized the broader societal impact of this infrastructure investment. “We’re proud to celebrate this milestone,” Chris Brown, the vice president of transformer cores at Tempel, said. “For more than 30 years, we’ve operated in Burlington to serve transformer manufacturers across North America. Most people will never see our product directly, but transformers are absolutely essential in all of our lives every day as they move electricity to our homes, our businesses, our industries and our communities.”

As North America experiences rapid electrification and an influx of renewable energy integration, supply chain bottlenecks for electrical steel and components remain a key industry hurdle. This proactive multi-million dollar expansion positions Tempel Canada as a central player in relieving those constraints and accelerating utility-scale deployment.
